Construct a scale of 1 cm = 1 m to read meters and decimeters and long enough to measure up to 14 meters. Show on this scale a distance equal to 12.4 meters.

Maximum Distance to be given = 14 m
Indicate= 12.4 m

Representative Fraction [R.F.] = ?
Length of Scale = ?

Now,  
 
R.F.=Length of the Drawing  Actual length of Object  

R.F.=1 cm  1 m  

R.F.=1 cm  1 × 100  cm  

R.F.=1100 

Now,

Length of Scale = R.F.  × Maximum Distance

Length of Scale = 1 100  × 14 × 100

Length of Scale = 14 cm
