What is E-Waste? Enlist the sources of E-waste.

As per the E-Waste Management (Rules, 2016) E-Waste is defined as electrical and electronic Equipment whole or in part discarded as Waste by the consumer or bulk consumer as well as rejects from manufacturing. E-waste consists of discarded electronic and electrical appliances which have reached the end of their tenure or life and no longer serve the purpose they were intended for Common items that are classified as electrical and electronic waste are:

  1. Large household appliances like refrigerators/freezers, washing machines, dishwashers
  2. Small household appliances like toasters, coffee makers, irons, hairdryers, vacuum cleaners Information technology (IT) and telecommunications equipment like personal computers, telephones,Mobile phones, laptops, printers, scanners, photocopiers.
  3. Consumer equipment like televisions, DCD players, stereo equipment, electric toothbrushes
  4. Lighting equipment like fluorescent lamps
  5. Electrical and electronic tools like handheld drills, saws, screwdrivers
  6. Toys, leisure and sports equipment
  7. Medical equipment systems (with the exception of all implanted and infected products)
  8. Monitoring and control instruments
