A set of instructions in a logical order to perform a meaningful task is called a program and a set of programs is called software.
There are basically two types of Software:

- Application Software

- System Support Software
e.g. - Drivers for I/O device, routine for socket programming, etc.,
- System Development Software
e.g. - Editor, pre-processor, compiler, interpreter, etc.,
Application Software
- General Purpose Software
e.g. - Word processing, web browser, Excel, etc.,
- Special Purpose Software
e.g. - Accounting Software, Tax Calculation Software, Ticket Booking Software, etc.,
